When we received the invitation for the Gorilla Music Indianapolis Battle of the Bands at The Emerson Theater, we wondered…do they know 1) we are twice as old as the other musicians, 2) we don’t play music you ‘mosh’ to and 3) we’ve never played a ‘battle’ before. Plus, people would have to pay $12 to get in for just a half hour performance. Was it worth it? You bet it was!! We had no idea how amazing the experience would be.
Everyone at The Emerson was friendly and helpful. We chatted with the other musicians and they gave us advice. We learned how a battle of the bands works – how you load in and how the back line gets set up. We played first, so we had no idea what to expect. Our hearts were racing as the lights came on and we were off and rockin’ the originals.
The light show was amazing and we had a good crowd. Everyone applauded and cheered and it was a fantastic experience. We felt like complete rock stars!
Voting wasn’t until 1am, and there were 12 bands following us and we didn’t stay to see who won. It wasn’t about the ‘battle’ – it was an amazing stage to play. Thank you to everyone who came out. It was great to have friends in the audience (with bunny ears!) We appreciate your support and thanks for a great experience.
